Zanoba was established to encourage community to document, preserve and enjoy our traditional and culture in our respective communities in Zambia.

ACHIEVEMENTS

Zanoba Nkhanga Library Branch has so far achieved the following:

NURSERY SCHOOL

The Nkhanga Library has a Nursery School with total enrolment of 21 Girls 18 Boys total 39. The Nursery School is doing well in line with school performance. The Bank recruited 2 male and female volunteer teachers supervised by Madam Phelire Zimba supported by Banda Robert-the Board Secretary.

PRODUCTION UNIT

Zanoba in order to sustain its services the Bank has a field of sunflower where the Bank anticipate the income after sale (proceeds) to meet administrative costs.

PUBLIC SERVICE

Zanoba provides services to other organizations such as, Cooperatives, Marion Medical Mission (MMM) – Shallow wells, Churches, Govt. Schools and Football and Netball Community clubs within Nkhanga. Zanoba collaborates well with these mentioned organizations.

The board is in function and has in place Library attendance Register, Visitors Book and financial records.

So far 135 Beneficiaries of which 35 female and 100 male have been serviced since January 2015.

Organizations that came for the service are 11 in total since January 2015.

CHALLENGES

With limited resources Zamoba faces financial problem to meet the planned activities.

ACHIEVEMENTS The Bank has achieved the following: Apart from the existing programs i.e. Nursery School, Production Unit and Public Service; Adult literacy class is now in function. Enrollment of learners is progressing well. So far the class has a total of 16 of which 6 are male and 10 are female. We have in place Centre Committee which comprises of Nkhanga Primary School Teachers and the community leaders.

The following is the committee for Adult literacy class:

  1. Deputy Head – Mr. Moses Mwale/Community leader – Mr. Davison Zimba
  2. Coordinator – Mr. M. J. Sakala/Senior Teacher.
  3. Adult Literacy Instructors – Mr. Penious Banda (Teacher) Mr. Joanes Chakwila (Teacher), Mr. Amosi Banda (Committee member) and Miss Phelire Zimba (Zanoba)

ORIENTATION The Deputy Head Mr. Moses Mwale and Mr. J. J. Sakala the Senior Teacher facilitated the Guidelines for Adult Literacy classes in line with the Ministry of Education. On Specific guideline they informed the Library the classes will be conducted at an agreed and convenient time by the learners.

SUMMARY The Nkhanga Library Executive Committee with the support from the Ministry of Education indicates that purposes of the library shall be achieved.

ACHIEVEMENTS

Zambia Knowledge Bank Library has achieved the following activities:

There is an increase in number of pupil’s enrollment a total of 42 of whom 19 are boys and 23 are girls. The Nursery School-in-charge Mr. Precious Zimba together with the Executive Board did performance assessment and pupil’s performance is so encouraging. This is so due to commitment of volunteer teachers and the Board particularly Ms. Phelire Zimba who has lent much support.

PRODUCTION UNIT:

Zambia Knowledge Bank Library grew Lima Sunflower and the yield has not been good due to poor rainfall this season. However, the Bank harvested 3 x 50 lb. bags (3 x 110 lbs) and wishes to process into cooking oil so that we add value to the crop and sell some the remaining for consumptions.

PUBLIC SERVICE

Zambia Knowledge Bank Library provides services to organizations (Ministry), clubs and individuals. Organization such as “SUN” (Scaling up Nutrition) conducted formatory meeting of the Nkhanga Ward Nutrition Coordinating Committee and Training Lead Farmers (LF) and Nutrition Support Group Leaders (NSGL).

Ministry of Agriculture also conducted Training on Farmer Registration data which was done successfully.

Individuals like THOKOZA NDHLOVU CHEWE aspiring MP for Chasetu constituency was impressed with the services and pledged to fund Zanoba.

→So far 30 beneficiaries have accessed library services of which 18 are male and 12 are female during the month.

CHALLENGES

With scarcity of funding Zambia Knowledge Bank faces financial problem to meet the planned activities.

PROPOSED SOLUTIONS AND WAY FORWARD

With availability of financial resources Zanoba wishes to recruit 4 permanent volunteers to administer Library services on daily basis.

Zanoba intends to put in place other viable income generating Activities that will sustain the Library and making it financially sound: such as poultry farming and gardening.

Increase Enrollment of Adult Literacy class during the month of July 2015.

CONCLUSION

Zambia Knowledge Bank Nkhanga Branch is doing very well in line with Reading Culture, Nursery School, clubs (Hooking club) women are meeting regularly; the Board is coordinating well.
